I care about providing learning opportunities that move the needle rather than just checking a box for training completion. This weeksheet about accessibility is an example of custom learning activities tailored to a specific organization and learners' needs. I take complex ideas and make them accessible to diverse learning styles. Because I understand that organizations are in the business of serving clients, and every minute of employee development counts.

When I built out a new 16-week-long DEI course as part of a curriculum redesign, open to all learners at the institution, I decided to consult with a subject matter expert to design a current and relevant assignment about accessibility and disabilities.
I consulted with the Director of Accessibility Services on a needs analysis to obtain expert knowledge about institutionally specific disability resources. We discussed the desired outcomes: raising awareness, decreasing stigma, and providing information about how to access resources.
With information from the SME and the recommendations of my department, I analyzed the material to develop learning objectives. My process included testing resources, including Ally for LMS. I organized the content into three main categories: physical campus accessibility, course content accessibility, and key concepts about disabilities.
Building out the worksheet included developing questions and activities that would engage a variety of learning styles and could be completed in 2-3 hours. To maximize impact within a limited timeframe, I identified credible and concise online resources that required minimal reading. Once the deliverable was complete, I uploaded it to Brightspace LMS.
